Welcome back to Head 2 Head, where we are back to discuss important issues (aside from the #MCM we had last time! Make sure to check out our last blog post). On this blog, we aim to keep you informed across the topic of Scalp Micropigmentation, hair loss and how our Scalp Provoco treatment can support and be an option for you, or someone you know.
This time, as it’s September, we wanted to discuss and bring to light Alopecia Awareness month. The purpose of Alopecia Awareness month is to raise awareness and get people talking about Alopecia… what it is, the different types of the condition and hear each other stories.
There are various types of Alopecia and understanding those is the first step. Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune condition which attacks the hair follicles causing the hair to fall out usually in small, round patches. For some, it leaves them with a few bare patches but for others it can progress across their entire scalp and then their entire body.
Androgenetic Alopecia is the most common type of hair loss in men according to the BAD (British Association of Dermatologists) with it affecting half of all men over 50. According to Health Central, there is a genetic component to alopecia and having a close family member with it increases the risk. In fact, 1 in 5 people with alopecia have a family member who also has it. Androgenetic Alopecia is caused by a number of both genetic and hormonal factors with certain hormones affecting the hair follicles and causing them to become progressively smaller until eventually, the follicles shrink and can no longer produce hair.
Scarring Alopecia is a collection of hair loss disorders where hair follicles are destroyed and replaced by scar tissue. The inflammation destroying the hair follicle occurs below the skin surface and it is also known as Cicactricial Alopecia.
Traction Alopecia is a result of frequent and excessive pulling and tension on the hair. It can occur from something as simple as particular hairstyle or from an individual deliberately creating the tension on the hair tracts possibly by repeatedly and aggressively pulling at it themselves.
Here at Scalp Provoco, we offer Scalp Micropigmentation – a completely unique, tailored and instant treatment which involves small tattoos on the scalp to replicate hair follicles. You can read up more about what we do on our previous blog posts and website. Our purpose is to offer an immediate, personalised solution for people who suffer from conditions such as Alopecia and provide them with a pleasant and understanding experience where they will leave feeling satisfied and confident. Through consultations we work with the individual to fulfil the exact wants and needs to achieve the best results for our client.
Make sure you’re supporting Alopecia with #AlopeciaAwarenessMonth and #ThisIsMe on social media and sharing our service to those around you!
